The Sandwich Book is a project by Polish artist and designer Pawel Piotrowski. The book uses different types of paper to showcase the typical ingredients of sandwiches.
Designed by Michael Schmidt and Francis Bitonti, and based on a full body scan of Dita, the dress was printed by Shapeways, featured nearly 3000 articulated joints and for good measure was studded with 12,000 Swarovski crystals.
This shoe weighs just 150 grams. UT.LAB and used an unconventional material called Tyvek paper to cut weight. The outsole is made from a lightweight URT foam-rubber, the laces are waxed cotton, and the insole is made from POLIYOU foam. Specially chosen inks and printing ensures the shoe can be washed without losing colour.
The aptly-named Blank Slate, a new book from German publisher Gestalten, comes with a DVD containing over 400 product dummies of shopping bags, bottles, brochures and more, for you to stick your logo or design on.
Gabriele Meldaikyte from London, combined pretty with functional in this one-handed usage first aid kit design. It’s easy to use, easy to understand. Meldaikyte believes that the design of normal first aid kits do not “address that they are often used by someone who has no medical training”.
Photographer Pelle Cass from Massachusetts took hundreds (sometimes 300!) of pictures from the same location and then picked out people and animals from each of those pictures and combined them into a single image. Sometimes there’s a theme, other times it can be completely random. It shows the random life of a single setting in one image.
Sam Sharples’ brand Identity for a pot washer, inspired by his part time job as a pot washer throughout his time at university. Contrasting coloured rubber gloves and playful hand gestures are used to give class and charm to a job that is usually considered the most boring of jobs.
