Modern, but I like it :-)

I just dont think churches should be built in this modern style.

Ehh. I think if theres one thing that shouldn’t be described as modern its a place of worship.

Out of context, its very pretty. In context I think a little inappropriate.

Don’t like this at all, churches should not look modern or be designed in a new way. A church is a church including the seats that don’t sit nice.

I like it. Good idea and I don’t think it’s inappropriate, just in the move. Why religion couldn’t be this way?

the church has always been about the people, not the building. Jesus didnt die to save buildings. whats wrong with creating a badass looking church building? since when did the building have to look a certain way in order for God to move?

Christianity like most religions rely heavily on a historical feel to validate its legitimacy. vintage style architecture along with vintage style art and sculpture are tools of propagation. These things have a subliminal effect on people of faith. If this trend catches on the spread of christianity might be reduced.

Funny to see faith never has a problem with money or spending it. Just another roof for brain washers and child touchers.

Modern design has come a religion!)

Religion and architecture have some symbiotic relationship apparently….. Being rather uninterested in organized religion I am unaware, Being educated about it, I was under the impression that religion was about faith not the ascetics of the building in which you worship….I am on the other hand interested in ascetics and I still don’t like it but appreciate it’s modern appeal…It feels perhaps a bit “cold” for it’s purpose. If this were my client, I would have a softer, warmer ambiance. But the design itself has merit.

It is a great design. A church doesnt have to be old feeling, just because the content is referencing something old. With religion, people get so stuck on the past that they fail to see how it may be manifesting itself at this present moment in time.

It’s a church… It should be gothic architecture or nothing.

Telling me not to do something makes me want to do it even more.

Why not shake people’s expectations?? It’ll get rid of that dull, sheep-eyed glaze in their eyes.

I’m loving it. Its not about the church architecture its about who do they praise. Awesome design God things must be the best. he is the Best.

Interesting to hear so many people not like this church, or rather feel modern is inappropriate for church design. I am sure the client specifically wanted this aesthetic for their space, or they would have sought out another architect.

Let’s also not forget this is a business. I like this quite a bit, except for the odd detail of the floating column, and some uncertainty in the ceiling and flooring in the stone-walled room. The wood-clad entry is nice, could have been more interesting seeing the entire wall open up there.

I’d pray there.

I love the architecture, I’m just saddened to see the modern, rich aesthetic co-opted to entice people into a church. It’s counter-point to the entire concept of modern design. Modern is secular, modern is early humanism, modern is antithetical to religion – it is a religion in itself.

on a second point, I live in Washington DC – all of our churches downtown look like this, but are period accurate and speak more truly to their materials.

I have not been in church for a long time but if this church was in my neighborhood i would definitely visit.

awesome church. minimalistic… without sacred unnessesary gadgets. i suppose its protestant church because doesnt matter is religion but spirit in its own. ! awesome !
